For Dec. 19, 2015 to Jan. 3, 2016

Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time. 

A Jan. 3 Greek Reporter story looked at Greeks who left their mark in 2015, including Paul Alivisatos’ receiving of the National Medal of Science. He was also featured in a Dec. 28 story in the same outlet.

A Dec. 29 National Geographic story on Eight Tech Breakthroughs of 2015 mentioned efficient solar panels and cited a lab report led by Mark Bolinger and Joachim Seel.

A Dec. 28 KTVU-TV Channel 2 story noted the awarding of the National Medal of Science to Lab Director Paul Alivisatos. Daily Cal, NBC Bay Area and many others also covered the announcement.

A Dec. 24 Think Progress story on wind energy cited a report led by Ryan Wiser and Mark Bolinger.

A Dec. 23 R&D magazine story looked at cool roof research in China and quoted Dev Millstein. Much of the research also appeared in a recent lab news release.

A Dec. 23 GreenCarCongress story looked at work led by Nitash Balsara on solid-state lithium batteries. Green Energy News and New Electronics followed a lab news release and also featured the work.

A Dec. 22 Washington Post story on extreme weather danger and the power grid quoted the Lab’s Joe Eto. The Sacramento Bee ran a similar story.

A Dec. 22 Popular Science story on man-made quakes quoted Ernie Majer.

An upcoming issue of Popular Science magazine includes a story on 2D sheets and notes work by Berkeley Lab.

A Dec. 21 Epoch Times story cited work by Mina Bissell in the fight against cancer.

A Dec. 21 Bloomberg news story on the pot industry’s energy use quoted Evan Mills. Fortune magazine ran a similar story mentioning Mills.

A Dec. 20 LiveMint story on the 25 top sci-tech developments of the year included work on an invisibility cloak led by Xiang Zhang, which was also highlighted in a lab news release.

A Dec. 19 Carbon Brief video on reaction to the recent Paris climate agreement included an interview with Daithi Stone.
