Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

Several news outlets covered the Nov. 12 opening of Shyh Wang Hall. Attending the dedication event were KGO-TV Channel 7, KGO-AM radio, Daily Cal, World Journal, Berkeleyside.com and Sing Tao Daily. Also covering the story were KQED-FM,the San FranciscoBusiness Times, HPCWire and Bay City News among others.

A Nov. 12 SmartGrid News story highlighted a new report led by Ben Hoen showing a premium for homes with solar panels. PV Solar Report, Green Optimistic, GreenTechMedia, Consumer Affairs, and Solar Industry magazine also covered the new report. The story was based on a recent lab news release.

A Nov. 12 KQED Quest video looked at the Bay Area’s role in the development of particle accelerators and included interviews with Michael Barnett and Larry Phair.

A Nov. 12 Los Alamos Daily Post story looked at a new collaboration—which includes Berkeley Lab— to develop future supercomputers and quoted NERSC Director Sudip Dosanjh.HPCWire also covered the collaboration.

A Nov. 12 Genetic Engineering and Biotechnolgy Newsstory featured work led by Antoine Snijders and Jian-Hua Maoidentifying genetic factors that link body weight to neurological disorders. The Daily Cal also covered the research, which was first reported in a lab news release.

A Nov. 10 Yahoo News story noted that several lab-affiliated neutrino projects received one of this year’s Breakthrough Prize. One of those accepting the award on behalf of the projects was Kam-Biu Luk. Numerous newspapers and news outlets covered the announcement.

A Nov. 9 Forbes story profiled cancer researcher Claire Robertson and also quoted her mentor, Mina Bissell.

A Nov. 9 Fierce.com story noted the lab’s involvement in the development of a full-body PET scanner. Bill Moses leads the Lab’s effort and his role is more fully explained in this lab news release.

A Nov. 9 Engineering & Technology magazine story on efforts to develop artificial photosynthesis quoted Peidong Yang.

A Nov. 9 Daily Cal story looked at new efforts to measure the expansion of the universe and quoted Greg Aldering. The story was based on a lab news release.
