Berkeley Lab In the News, Week of Sept. 27, 2015

 Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

An Oct. 2 National Geographic story noted a new report showing solar energy price drops and quoted lead author Mark Bolinger. The report first appeared in a lab news release and was also covered by GreenTechMedia, R&D magazine, Fierce Energy, Business Spectator and many others.

On Oct. 2 GreenTechMediaran a piece written by the Lab’s Ilan Gur and Sebastien Lounis on Cyclotron Road as an incubator for technology.

An Oct.1 KGO-TVstory looked at pollution research by Thomas Kirchstetter and Chelsea Preble. The story came after a lab news release brought attention to the project.

An Oct. 1 San Francisco Business Times story looked at the new Kavli Institute for Fundamental Neuroscience, which includes Berkeley Lab as a partner.

An Oct. 1 Wall Street Journal story on the future of autonomous cars included mention of work led by Jeff Greenblatt and Sam Saxena on autonomous taxis. Their work was first reported in a lab news release earlier this year.

An Oct. 1 Chemical Engineering story looked at research on ionic liquids led by BlakeSimmons, and mentioning the Joint BioEnergy Institute and the Advanced Biofuels Process Demonstration Unit.

A Sept. 30 China Daily story covered Peidong Yang’sMacArthur Fellow award.

A Sept. 29 Desert Sunstory on challenges to rooftop solar installations quoted Andrew Satchwell.

A Sept. 28 Triple Pundit story on Google pollution sensors noted that some of the research was done at Berkeley Lab, led by Lara Gundel.

A Sept. 28 Fortunemagazine story looked at one of the success stories coming from the lab’s Cyclotron Road incubator effort.

A Sept. 28 EE Timesstory featured work on a 2D atomic thin semiconductor led by Peidong Yang. CleanTechnica also covered the work. The story appeared after a lab news release on the research.

The fall issue of HP Matter includes two stories mentioning Berkeley Lab research. One focuses on work supported by ARPA-E, including a biofuels project led by Harry Beller, and a second story on lithium-ion batteries and connectivity to the grid, quoting Sam Saxena.

The latest issue of Discovermagazine includes a look into the history, and future, of accelerators and mentions Ernest Lawrence, Wim Leemans and Hitoshi Murayama.

A Sept. 28 Daily Cal story looked at a new drought study involving the Joint Genome Institute’s Chia-Lin Wei and Devin Coleman-Derr.

A Sept. 26 Bakersfield Californian story on California efforts to reduce gasoline usage quoted Jeffrey Greenblatt.
