Berkeley Lab In the News, Week of May 17, 2015

Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

A May 22 San Francisco Chronicle story on the opening of a new Genentech facility noted Berkeley Lab’s role in its energy efficiency. A similar story in the San Francisco Business Journal quoted Mary Ann Piette.

A May 22 India Weststory reported that Anubhav Jain won a DOE Early Career Award.

A May 20 Astronomystory highlighted the observation of a supernova based on work by, and quoting, Daniel Kasen. Similar stories ran in TechTimes, Yahoo News, and Space.com, among others. These stories came as a result of a news story written by the Lab’s Computing Science’s communications office.

A May 18 KQEDstory and video on women in science quoted Aindrila Mukhopadhyay.

A May 18 Radio Free Asia on statistical challenges in estimating China’s GDP quoted David Fridley.

A May story on the California Energy Commission website looked at the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis.

A May episode of Science Today looked at work by Sam Saxena showing that batteries of electric vehicles may last longer than previously thought. The story resulted from a news story recently written by the Lab’s Public Affairs department.

A May R&D.comfeature, from a Lab news release, looked at work by Junqiao Wu showing how defects can help make a material stronger. Reddit, NanoWerk and Ukrainian News were just some of the other outlets covering his work.
