Berkeley Lab In the News, Week of November 16, 2014

Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

A Nov. 21 San Jose Mercury News story featured the General Purpose Laboratory building and the battery research that it will house. The story quoted VenkatSrinivasan and BrettHelms and also ran in the Santa Cruz Sentinel, Paradise Post, Chico Enterprise-Record, Oakland Tribune and Contra Costa Times.

A Nov. 21 Sciencemagazine story on China’s efforts to curb greenhouse gases quoted Lynn Price.

A Nov. 20 ClimateWirestory featured research into the carbon release from soil microbes, work led by Jinyun Tang and William Riley. AstrobiologyMagazine also covered their work.

A Nov. 20 Climate Central story looked at a new report on ways to decarbonize the U.S. and quoted Margaret Torn. She was also quoted in an International Business Timesstory.

A Nov. 20 AZOCleantechstory featured the health benefits of reducing greenhouse gases, research led by Dev Millstein and Jeff Greenblatt.

A Nov. 18 Xinhua Newsstory on China’s use of coal quoted Nan Zhou.

A Nov. 18 KGO-TV Channel 7 story on the CalCharge battery collaboration included an interview with Venkat Srinivasan.

A Nov. 18 Network Computing story named what it considered the top science and technology labs, which included Berkeley Lab.

A Nov. 17 GreenTechMedia story noted the Lab’s involvement in the creation of a vehicle-to-grid project at the Los Angeles Air Force Base.

A Nov. 17 PC Worldstory noted the latest iteration of the Top 500 supercomputers list, co-managed by Erich Strohmaier and Horst Simon. Network World and many others also covered the latest announcement.

A Nov. 17 Scientific American story on the next generation of supercomputers cited the Lab and NERSC.

A Nov. 16 USA Todaystory highlighted research showing an increase in lightning strikes with climate change, work led by David Romps. EarthSky, IEEE Spectrum, Daily Cal, Self Magazine and ZME Science were some of the others covering his work.
