Berkeley Lab In the News, Week of November 3, 2013

Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. A Nov. 8 story in The Guardian looked at micro-insurance and climate change and quoted the Lab’s Evan Mills.

A Nov. 7 Naturestory on the possible polonium poisoning of Yasser Arafat quoted the Lab’s Kai Vetter. Scientific American also ran the story quoting Vetter.

A Nov. 7 Fierce Government.com story covered a Congressional hearing on scientific funding and included testimony from the Lab’s Saul Perlmutter.

A Nov. 6 Los Angeles Times story highlighted work led by the Lab’s Brett Singer and Jennifer Logue showing hazards of indoor cooking. KCBS-TV Channel 2 and KNX-AM in Los Angeles, KPIX-TV Channel 5 in San Francisco and the Chicago Tribunewere among others covering their work.

A Nov. 6 Science360story featured work on diamond defects led by the Lab’s GrahamFleming. Materials Today also covered the work.

And a Nov. 5 Los Angeles Times story highlighted a new report led by the Lab’s JeffGreenblatt showing challenges in meeting California’s 2050 greenhouse gas goals. The study was widely covered including by the San Francisco Chronicle, Sacramento Bee, KQED, KPBS, Quartz.com, and KPCC-FM and KCRW-FM in Los Angeles.

A Nov. 5 Huffington Post story on a conference on climate change included the Lab’s Bill Collins.

A Nov. 1 KQED-FM story highlighted battery research led by the Lab’s Venkat Srinivasan.
