Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

An Oct. 18 Financial Times story naming the Next Big Names in Physics included the Lab’s Daniel Dwyer.

An Oct. 17 Huffington Post story on the dangers of smoking cited work by the Lab and quoted Lara Gundel.

An Oct. 16 San Jose Mercury News story profiled the Lab’s Carl Haber and his work on audio restoration.

An Oct. 15 National Geographic story featured work by the Lab’s Rob Ritchie showing the basis for a particular fish’s piranha-proof scales. Ritchie’s work was widely covered, including by Live Science, Yahoo!News, theLondon Daily Mail, the London Telegraph and many others.

The federal government shutdown led to numerous stories mentioning the lab including on KQED-FMand the Daily Cal, among others.

An Oct. 14 EDN.comstory on the Large Hadron Collider noted the Lab’s participation in the creation of its ATLAS detector, with help from the Lab’s Maurice Garcia-Sciveres
