Lab news releases earned the following coverage:

A Lab release on research to “squeeze” nanocrystals to change their phase, led by Tom Russell (MSD) and Brett Helms (MF), was picked up by R&D Magazine. (Aug. 10)

ChemEurope.com picked up a Lab release about a stronger type of covalent organic frameworks, or COFs. (Aug. 6)

Utility Dive and Daily Energy Insider highlight the Lab’s role in a challenge that seeks smart-grid concepts. The challenge was announced in an Aug. 2 Lab press release.  (Aug. 6)

The Daily Californian writes about Lab-developed resources related to power outage impacts and costs featured in a July 31 Lab release. (Aug. 3)

The journal Science published a news article highlighting Lab research that is exploring the use of synchrotron-produced infrared light to explore cell identification. The article quotes Cynthia McMurray (MBIB) and Michael Martin (ALS). (Aug. 10)

Green Car Congress reported on a development led by U. Wisconsin-Madison in engineering yeast to tolerate ionic liquid for biomass pretreatment, involving Michael Thelen of JBEI. (Aug. 10)

The Sacramento News & Review covered a recent Lab water talk in Sacramento, quoting Peter Nico (EESA), Chinmayee Subban (ETA), and Dan Miller (CSD). (Aug. 9)

GenomeWeb reported that Newomics, a Lab spinoff company founded by former Lab scientists Daojing Wang and Pan Mao and subject of a Lab release in 2017, raised $3.9M in funding. (Aug. 9)

InsideEPA.com/climate (subscription required) mentions an Aug. 2 Lab report related to grid management. (Aug. 9)

The New York Times quoted Michael Wehner (CRD) in a report about climate and wildfires as well as in a follow-up Q&A with the reporter. USA Today featured a quote by Wehner that had originally appeared in a Bloomberg news article. The Los Angeles Times and numerous other media reports also carried comments by Wehner. (Aug. 8)

A Bloomberg article titled “Your Chandelier May Be Trump's Next Regulatory Rollback Target” cites a 2017 Lab report on light bulb energy efficiency. (Aug. 8)

The Daily Cal ran a package of stories on Berkeley’s legacy. The Lab was featured in several of them: Ashok Gadgil and Jay Keasling were quoted in a story on Berkeley’s scientific legacy, “From cyclotrons to wetsuits;” Ernest Lawrence, Glenn Seaborg, and the Lab’s history were mentioned in a story that highlighted 90 years of nuclear innovation at UC Berkeley; another article about the Nuclear Free Berkeley Act quotes John German and former Lab researcher Gordon Wozniak; and the Lab is mentioned in a piece on the effects of Berkeley’s nuclear-free zone. Margaret Torn (EESA) is quoted in a CNN piece on Trump’s Tweets on California’s fires. (Aug. 7)

CityLab, in a feature article, references Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s research at the Lab. (Aug. 6)

A San Francisco Chronicle story on technology for fighting wildfires mentions FUEGO, a satellite-based fire detection system co-developed by the Lab, and quotes Carl Pennypacker (PH). (Aug. 4)

Mother Jones quoted Mary Ann Piette in an article about how hot weather strains the electrical grid. (Aug. 4)
