Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. A Jan. 18 R&Dmagazine story noted a new report on energy efficiency programs led by the Lab’s Galen Barbose and Chuck Goldman. ScienceDaily also ran the story.

A Jan. 17 Seattle Times story on battery troubles with the Boeing 787 quoted the Lab’s VinceBattaglia. Similar stories ran in the San Jose Mercury News and Chicago Tribune. KTVU-TV Channel 2 ran a story quoting the Lab’s Tom Richardson.

A Jan. 17 SciCasts.comstory featured work led by the Lab’s Eva Nogales showing new complexity in organisms.

A Jan. 16 KurzweilAIstory featured research led by the Lab’s Haimei Zheng which used electron beams to manipulate nanoparticles.

A Jan. 15 Richmond Confidential story looked ahead to the environmental review process for the Lab’s proposed Richmond Bay Campus and quoted the Lab’s SamChapman.

A Jan. 15 Denver Poststory on the costs of renewable energy quoted the Lab’s GalenBarbose.

The recent hillside slide at the lab generated numerous news stories, including Berkeleyside.com, KCBS-AM radio, KRON-TV Channel 4, KPIX-TV Channel 5 and KNTV-TV Channel 11. Quoted in several stories were the Lab’s Weyland Wongand GeneTucker.

A Jan. 14 MarketWatchstory on how certain aspects of an office can be bad for your health cited Lab research.

A Jan. 14 San Francisco Chronicle story looked at new work on biofuels led by the Lab’s Harvey Blanch and Douglas Clark.

A Jan. 13 front-page San Francisco Chronicle story featured the Labs’ Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis. The story included a link to a video as well as a profile of JCAP director, Heinz Frei.

A Jan. 13 San Francisco Chronicle story on the reliability of electric companies quoted the Lab’s Joe Eto. A second story related to the piece also quoted Etoand cited Lab research.
