Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

A Sept. 4 Utility Dive story highlighted a report on electricity reliability and quoted coauthor Peter Larsen.

A Sept. 4 Newsweek story looked at work by Evan Mills showing the high cost of gaming computers. His work was widely covered by Yahoo News, CleanTechnica, Slate, Vice.com, Wired, Digital Trends, Grist, and PC Gamer among others. The news coverage was the result of a news release produced by Lab Public Affairs.

A Sept. 3 R&D.comfeature, based on a lab news release, looked at work led by Sylvain Costeswho developed a way to time-lapse the repair of cells.

A Sept. 3 San Francisco Chronicle story looked at the recent helicopter flyovers gathering information on background radiation, work being led by Kai Vetter and Brian Quiter.KPIX CBS TV, KTVU FOX TV, KNTV NBC TV, KGO ABC TV, and Berkeleyside.com also covered the research project.

A Sept. 3 Wired magazine story on bacteria-killing viruses quoted Joint Genome Institute’s Tanja Woyke and Nikos Kyrpides.

A Sept. 3 piece on Move Forward written by Jeff Greenblatt looked at the transportation challenges of space travel.

A Sept. 3 R&D.com feature looked at nanoscale defects, work led by Michael Crommie andJairo Velasco Jr. The story was based on a lab news release.

A Sept. 2 Daily Mailstory looked at the first 3D CT scans showing the Earth’s interior, work made possible by NERSC computers.

A Sept. 2 Christian Science Monitor story on a future of increasing droughts and heat waves quoted Michael Wehner.

A Sept. 1 story in The Scientist quoted the Joint Genome Institute’s Nikos Kyrpides on the benefits of next-generation sequencing.

An August 31 Public Radio International story looked at work on artificial photosynthesis by Chris Chang, Michelle Chang andPeidong Yang.
