Berkeley Lab In the News, Feb. 8 to 27, 2015

Berkeley Lab “In the News” is our weekly review of Lab researchers, staff, and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after time.

A Feb. 26 front-page San Francisco Chronicle story looked at new climate research led by the Lab’s Daniel Feldman and Bill Collins. The Chroniclealso wrote an editorial on the research. The study received significant media attention including by the Associated Press, KCBS-AM, Popular Science, LiveScience, Physics World, Sacramento Bee, Forbes, and many others.

On Feb. 26 KQEDreleased a new e-book highlighting efforts to create the Darfur Stove by Ashok Gadgil.

The recent meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) led to numerous stories of lab research, as well as the lab’s exhibit, in publications such as the BBC, NBC News, Forbes, and Physics Central:

A Feb. 13 Los Angeles Times story on conservation and the impact on utility companies quoted Galen Barbose.

A Feb. 13 HPC Wirestory on a slow down in high-performance computing quoted Horst Simon.

A Feb. 13 KQEDvideo profiled the Lab’s Vi Rapp in a career spotlight.

A Feb. 12 Wall Street Journal story looked at efforts to continue research on running and health by Paul Williams.

On Feb. 11 NPRradio interviewed Shashi Buluswar, discussing the recent 50 Breakthroughs report for the developing world. Makezine.com also covered the report.

A Feb. 11 KCBS-AMradio story on Google’s effort to invest in wind power quoted RyanWiser. Wiser was also quoted in a San Jose Mercury News story that same day.

A Feb. 10 New York Times story featured the Lab’s new Cyclotron Road project led by Ilan Gur. Nature magazine and GigaOmalso recently talked to him about efforts to innovate.
